How to Make the Perfect Cake Pop

Hi friends,

Do you have any special occasions coming up soon? An event that might require a cake? We absolutely love traditional cakes but are excited to mix it up a bit and turn our cakes into homemade cake pops.

Cake pops are festive and as equally delicious as traditional cake, and are really fun to eat. They are also good to keep in mind when the cake you are baking doesn’t turn out exactly as planned (i.e. a bit sunken in the middle or over-baked. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us).

To get started, you need cake. And while you can use any cake recipe, we love using a chocolate cake recipe for the ultimate chocolate cake pops.

Once you’ve baked your cake, here are some easy steps for perfect cake pops:

  1. Crumble It: Use your hands to crumble your cake into small pieces. Make sure there are no large chunks left.
  2. Add Frosting: The frosting will help bind the cake together. You can use any type of frosting you like. We love cream cheese frosting with chocolate cake pops, but any frosting will do.
  3. Mix Well: Mix the crumbled cake and frosting until it forms a dough-like consistency. Make sure there are no dry spots in the mixture.
  4. Shape Into Balls: Use your hands to roll the cake mixture into small, two-inch balls. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Chill: Chill the cake balls in the fridge or freezer for at least 30 minutes. This will help them firm up and hold their shape.
  6. Insert Sticks: After the cake balls have chilled, insert a stick into each one. You can use lollipop sticks or wooden skewers. Tip: we recommend dipping your stick into melted chocolate before inserting it onto a stick. It creates a glue-like effect that keeps it securely in place, which is important when you start decorating or dipping your cake pops.
  7. Dip in Chocolate: Melt chocolate in a microwave or double boiler. Dip each cake pop into the chocolate, making sure it’s fully coated.
  8. Decorate: Well, anything goes here. We love a white chocolate drizzle, lots of rainbow sprinkles, and even crushed pretzels, nuts, or candy canes. Get creative and have fun!
  9. Chill Again: Place the cake pops back on the parchment-lined baking sheet and chill in the fridge until the chocolate has hardened.

Here’s a step-by-step video tutorial on how to make this delightful dessert.
