Following years of purposeful reimagination, Virginia’s oldest museum is experiencing a renaissance—with record-setting attendance and statewide engagement. This optimistic moment has been forged through an institution-wide effort to build community trust, prioritize guest engagement, and reorient museum resources toward broad, statewide collaboration and convening. Transformational changes to the museum’s identity, organizational structure, and business model have positioned it for an increasingly bright future.
Jamie Bosket began his tenure as President & CEO of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture in 2017. In his first five years as President & CEO, Jamie led an organizational transformation that included a comprehensive rebranding, the adoption of an ambitious long-range plan, a major staff reorganization, and the most successful fundraising campaign and most extensive renovation of the museum in its nearly 200-year history. Completed in 2022, Jamie led the History Matters capital campaign, raising more than $60 million to reimagine the museum to better welcome, engage, and reflect all Virginians. Previously, Jamie served in a number of leadership positions at George Washington’s Mount Vernon over a period of ten years.
In 2024, Jamie was elected to the governing board of the American Association for State & Local History (AASLH), the only comprehensive national organization dedicated to state and local history. Jamie was appointed by the Governor of Virginia and currently sits on the Virginia Board of Historic Resources and the executive committee of Virginia’s American Revolution 250th Commission. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Tessitura Network, a non-profit technology company that supports leading cultural organizations across the world.
