2019 Thanksgiving

What’s not to love about Thanksgiving? Family and friends, all gathered around the table enjoying a delicious meal. Mashed potatoes, turkey, gravy, stuffing galore! Not to mention all the pies, cakes, brownies, and other treats. But one of the things we love the most is the opportunity the holiday gives us to share gratitude for all the blessings in life. We thought we’d share some of the things we are thankful for in 2019.

Reading and Discovery Experience

The “Reading and Discovery Experience” took place at the Mars Wrigley Factory in Henderson, Nevada in partnership with social enterprise First Book. Nearly 200 students from select Title 1 schools in the surrounding area were given the opportunity to experience a hands-on chocolate-making demonstration, explore the facility’s 600-species cacti garden, tour the chocolate factory, and participate in a reading experience. “The Candy Bomber: The Story of Berlin’s Airlift’s ‘Chocolate Pilot” by Michael O. Tunnell was read aloud, and each student got to take home a copy of the book (along with some school supplies and gifts!)

First Book Partnership

Speaking of First Book, we are thankful for our partnership with this amazing non-profit social enterprise. This year alone we’ve been able to distribute over 15,000 books to educators, schools, and programs serving children in need. We’ve also been able to make grants for teachers to spend in the First Book Marketplace so they can buy much-needed supplies for their classrooms. Most recently, we awarded a $250 grant to the 6th-grade history department at South Belton Middle School during their Latin America Food Day.

Finely Grated Chocolate

We couldn’t talk about 2019 without talking about our Finely Grated Chocolate – because we finally solved the “use grated chocolate” kitchen conundrum. Most bakers know grating chocolate is tough – it melts as you grate. Forget about the food processor. And a vegetable peeler really is meant for, well, vegetables! Our Finely Grated Chocolate is pre-grated, and its hint of spices will elevate any recipe. Plus, it makes baking easy for everyone – from age 3 to 83! Thankful indeed!
